How to Succeed as an Inclusive Leader
A one-day masterclass for established, new and aspiring team leaders
who want to cultivate the “must-have” leadership behaviours in a more diverse world
A one-day virtual masterclass
For team leaders
Tuesday 21st Sept 2021
.
10.00am to 4.30pm
Via Zoom
Why should team leaders care about inclusive leadership?
Senior executives may set the strategic agenda, but it’s team leaders who make diversity and inclusion work on the ground.
Team leaders have a massive influence in their organisations.
You interact with more employees daily than many senior leaders.
You set the tone and model the behaviours that impact your employees’ performance, motivation, and morale.
As organisations grow increasingly aware of the benefits of diversity in making them more profitable, productive, competitive, innovative, and reputable places to work, they want team leaders who can cultivate environments that enable people from a wide variety of backgrounds to thrive and rise to their fullest potential.

Hello, my name is Lorna Shaw and I’m an Inclusive Leadership Coach.
I’ve been working with leaders now for over 20 years.
And what I’m about to share about the How to Succeed as an Inclusive Leader arises from this experience.
You see, leaders tell me that they want to foster a culture that values diversity and inclusivity. But they often feel ill-equipped and anxious to explore their own beliefs and leadership behaviours in this context.
They tell me many diversity training programs out there are too often focused on compliance and reinforcing the legal case for diversity. As such, they gain little ownership and buy-in.
This masterclass is a safe space for you to reflect on your own learning journey, your beliefs about diversity and inclusivity, and address your own discomfort about the topic, openly and honestly, without judgement and damage to your reputation.

Leading diverse teams can be extremely rewarding but is not without challenges.
The PROMISE of this masterclass is that you will be better equipped to lead a diverse team, build a culture of inclusivity where everyone feels they truly belong, and recognise and counteract unconscious biases in your own practice.

keep in mind, there’s much more to diversity than race
Diversity has become more and more synonymous with race. And yet there is much more to diversity than our bio-demographic make-up. Intersectionality, self-defined identities, work preferences, cultures, and cognitive diversity are also important aspects of diversity that the masterclass will cover.

It’s a masterclass with a difference….
This is a unique claim I know! But I can guarantee a masterclass experience like no other.
For a start, you’ll be joining me for a pre-masterclass call to discuss your ‘top of mind’ hard-to-deal with diversity and inclusivity issues. This will ensure that the masterclass content is designed with your specific needs in mind…. not off the shelf, generic content.
Everyone who joins will get access to the Mindsonar Thinking Styles Assessment. In communication, knowing how people think is a fantastic opportunity to ‘tune in’ to others, and to understand the language that will motivate and inspire them to be their best.
You’ll be encouraged to take part in a real-life challenge event, based on key diversity and inclusivity case studies, where you’ll be supported to go to the edge of your comfort zone, in a safe learning space, so you can feel more equipped to deal with challenges that come your way.
You’ll practice key inclusive leadership skills using cutting edge tools and techniques from the fields of neuroscience, and systems thinking:
- how to engage with the diversity around you.
- how to take the views of others into account.
- deep listening.
- how to facilitate inclusive conversations that connect people, take account of their differences, build common ground and shared understanding.
You’ll explore your beliefs about diversity and inclusivity and, through feedback, gain insight into how you ‘show up’ in your relationships with others, and how you can nurture and cultivate your authentic leadership presence.
And you’ll have the opportunity to continue your learning journey through participation in small learning pods with other team leaders from the masterclass.
This sort of small group immersive experience is what really works to grow your capacity as an inclusive leader…not following an inclusivity and diversity recipe book or completing a compliance checklist.

- You’ll be a role model for inclusivity and diversity to everyone you interact with
- You’ll be better able to unleash individual potential and create an environment where everyone can thrive and grow
- You’ll have greater clarity about how to leverage the diversity in your team
- You’ll help to raise your organisation’s performance and reputation as an employer of choice, through being a beacon that attracts the best talents
- You’ll be more equipped to handle the tensions between diversity and inclusivity

The only leadership program for team leaders to practice the habits and mindset of inclusive leadership
Most diversity and inclusivity training just give you information…laws, policies and practices you have to follow. Yes, information is important but it’s not enough to cultivate the habits and mindset of inclusive leadership.
By providing a highly immersive experiential day, participants will have the space to rehearse and experiment with new behaviours, update unhelpful beliefs and assumptions, and explore sensitive topics that they would normally feel uncomfortable discussing.
Participants are limited to a maximum of 10 to ensure intimacy, deep engagement and connection.
The day is designed to take you to the edge of your comfort zone. No subject or topic is off-limit.Conversations about ‘race’, ‘identity politics’, ‘white privilege’ and ‘othering’ will be encouraged.
The principles of confidentiality and non-judgement are at the heart of the masterclass design to ensure people feel safe to share views and different perspectives openly.
The masterclass is offered at a
special discounted price *£199
*Includes a FREE Cognitive Diversity Assessment, worth £220. I’m on a mission to grow the number of inclusive leaders.
So I’ve made the price affordable for you to be part of this change.

Skilled inclusive leaders are rare!
Are you ready to join their ranks?
Studies show that employees from under-represented communities don’t believe their team leaders are committed to implementing diversity and inclusion programmes.
Despite huge strides in diversity, leadership positions are still predominantly held by individuals from white majority communities.
As a team leader, you are in the frontline of working with diverse teams.
You must address the poor or under-performance of individuals on your team. What does that look like when the individual is also from a protected characteristic group?
Often you are second-guessing yourself:
- If I say something, how are they going to take it or respond?
- Will they call me out as some sort of ‘ist’ or ‘phobe’?
- Will they think I’m unfairly singling them out?
And what if you have an individual in your team who’s a bright rising star? How do you acknowledge and support them without accusations of favouritism or unfairness?
If what I’m saying here sounds provocative, it’s meant to.
When it comes to diversity and inclusion, we often sit on our hands and tie ourselves up in knots trying to find the right words to say. Consequently, we end up saying nothing at all, or something meaningless, so we don’t create waves.
You’re probably thinking by now, “it’s okay for you, you’re a black woman. It’s easier for you to talk about diversity or manage diverse teams.”
Well, you’d be wrong. I was once accused by a member of my team (of being a racist bully for tackling her performance. (And she was also a black woman)! The case went all the way to an Employment Tribunal.

So, I’ve been there. It’s painful.
And it’s especially painful when you’re on your own, with no support, as I was.
The thing is…
organisations tend to have lots of leadership development for the senior leaders, but team leaders are often left to manage on their own. They’re left without any real support or training on how to motivate, inspire, and lead diverse teams. And what is available often fails to take account of issues of self-chosen identities and different thinking styles.
It’s because I’ve stood in your shoes and understand how challenging it can be to manage and motivate a diverse team that I’ve created How to Succeed as an Inclusive Leader masterclass.
Only 5% of leaders globally are inclusive
The demand for inclusive leadership is growing.
If you’re ready to step up as an inclusive leader…then join the How to Succeed as an Inclusive Leader masterclass.

Here’s why you need this masterclass right now
- More and more organisations understand the importance of diversity to their performance….
- ….But throwing a diverse mix of people together doesn’t guarantee high performance
- Inclusive leaders are good for organisations….
- …But few leaders have developed inclusive leadership styles
- Team leaders have the biggest impact on the success or failure of diversity and inclusion in their organisations….
- ….But team leaders rarely get access to the leadership development they need
Inclusive leaders are a beacon for others. They radiate authenticity and attract the best talents around them.
By taking part in this masterclass, you will be making a significant difference, not only to your own leadership, but also to your organisation and the people who look to your leadership for inspiration.

Are you ready to develop your inclusive leadership behaviours?
Still not sure?
There are so many diversity and inclusion programmes on the market, how can you be sure this is the right one for you?
I know where you’re coming from. But here’s the thing. I designed this programme only after speaking with hundreds of leaders about their biggest diversity and inclusion challenges.

To reinforce the point, here’s what some of the leaders say they are looking for in a programme:

“For white men like me, we are feeling anxious and ill-equipped to explore our own beliefs and our leadership narrative in this space. It can be very toxic, very quickly.”
“The journey I’m walking is full of compromise, too hard to deal with issues and conflicts that make me very uncomfortable. Navigating these experiences and making some sort of sense is so important.”
“A gentle immersion into inclusivity is very important.”
“How we do the ground rules/pre-thinking is as important as exploring the topic.”
“I would link participants to a peer group of say 3 people to continue the learning.”
I’ve made sure
to take account of points like these and others and I hope you can see them reflected
throughout the masterclass design as you’ve read through it.
This programme is designed by leaders for leaders.
